How to
get online?
| What is a modem? A modem converts the digital signals used by your computer into analog signals used by the phone system. Computers communicate with electronic pulses. Phones use different tones and vibrations to communicate. A modem takes the electronic pulses and translates them into tones and vibrations, so that they can be transferred via the phone line. At the receiving end, the modem will take the vibrations and tones and translate them into the electronic pulses that the computer understands. Basically the modem works as a translator between your computer and your telephone. What Software do I need? Web browser and email software allows you to view information which comes to your computer from the Internet, or to send information to the Internet. The most popular brand of web browser and email software is the Microsoft range. This software is usually free and can be obtained from the Internet. You should also be able to obtain it from your ISP. Your ISP should help you with setting up this software. |
